Wingbolt-Placement (May 30th, 2004)

For several weeks now I'm working on the wing mainspars. Yesterday was one of the rare warm Springdays, so I could prime the remaining parts of the mainspar (someone not involved in this design never would expect how many parts the spars are made of).

For weeks my concern was that the wing attach bolts may not fit the spars if I just follow the plans. These worries were fuelled by Dave Kolzer's Sonex. His wingattach-nuts barely fit the forward wing attach angle. This shall not happen to my Sonex (so I hope). I catched the ruler and (hopefully) ended this worries.

At first I located the best bolthole position (17.6 mm from the leading edge of angle) at the rear winattachangle. Then I projected this location to the forward attach angle. The bolthole in the forward attach angle shall allow for sufficient space for the hex nut.

The ruler stows a distance of 889,5mm

This fort clearification. Now I can assemble the mainspar with confidence. If this distance is properly maintained, then the spar will fit (so I hope at least). WARNING do not take this nuber for granted, it may be different for your Sonex (such is experimental aircraft building).

Canopy Bow (May 23rd, 2004)

The most primitive way to bend the canopy bows...

... but it worked!

Flight Training (May 3rd, 2004)

This week was reserved for some experience on high-performance tailwheel aircraft (like the Sonex :-))

This is a totally other story.
